Plot Summary
Sam Dunn is a 30-year old anthropologist who's decided to turn his keen eye for observation on a subject he's been obsessed with since the age of 12: heavy metal music. Sam sets out on an incredible global journey to discover the history, roots, meanings and significance of metal, questioning why this music, loved so passionately by its millions of fans, is so often stereotyped, dismissed and condemned. Delving not only into the music, but also the subculture surrounding it, Sam probes into difficult and controversial issues of religion, sexuality and violence. Both thought provoking and fun, this exploration of rock’s dark side will delight fans, and entertain even those who don’t love the music … yet. Shot on location in the UK, Germany, Norway, Canada and the US, and featuring interviews and an awe-inspiring soundtrack by some of metal's biggest stars, this film is both a defence of a misunderstood art form and a window for the outsider into the phenomenon of heavy metal.
